As you probably already know, tracks from the Eclipse soundtrack have been slowly making their way out onto the internet. You can listen to the Muse song “Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)”  here, and the Vampire Weekend song “Jonathan Low” has also been released in it’s entirety here.

If you take even a cursory scan of past posts here, you know that I am a total spoiler whore. Filming pictures? Yes, please. Script leaks? I’ll read a few pages of that. Stills that weren’t supposed to be released yet? I’ll save those to my iPod.

But there is one thing (I guess the only thing) that I refuse to spoil myself on, and that is the music.

I, along with every other blogger, waited patiently for the track list to the Eclipse soundtrack to be revealed, one song at a time, but even doing this, there was no danger of me being spoiled. I already knew ahead of time there was not one song on the list that I had heard. Honestly, I’m lucky if I even recognize the bands.

Not listening to any of the songs on the soundtrack was an experiment I decided to try with New Moon. One thing I know about myself is that I am extremely picky about music. I could hate a song the first few times I hear it, but if it comes on the radio while I’m having a great time riding with friends, or I see the artist perform it live, suddenly my mind is changed, and every time I hear it after that, I remember that time and the feeling I had then.

Conversely, how, when and where I hear a song I like for the first time will always stick with me. I already knew the songs picked for the New Moon soundtrack would be great, and even if they weren’t my particular cup of tea, I knew I would automatically like them anyway since they were going to be playing during this movie. So I decided to wait until the movie to hear them so they could have the maximum emotional impact on me.

Waiting was harder than I thought. I went to Hot Topic to pick up my copy of the soundtrack the day they went on sale, and I couldn’t stay in the store because they were playing it on the speaker system. Same thing happened when we went to Borders bookstore later that week. I missed out on a lot of shopping opportunities in order to keep my ears pure. I also had to deal with listening to everyone else talk about how awesome this song or that song was, and speculate where in the movie it would go, and how much they loved this band now and so on.

But it was all 100%, completely and totally worth it. You know why? Because the first time I heard “Monsters”, it was here:

That’s right. This pretty much guaranteed that forever and ever, I will always think of the Sex Walk when I hear that song. It’s one of the most played songs in my entire iTunes library because of it.

The same can be said for all the other songs on the soundtrack too. How perfect was “Hearing Damage” for the Victoria chase scene? What about heartbreaking scene featuring “Possibility”?

Because I remember how certain scenes in New Moon were my favorite mostly due to the music, I can’t even say how excited I am for it to happen all over again in Eclipse.

So what about you? Would waiting to hear the songs make you like them more? Or do you enjoy knowing what to expect in terms of the movie and like to guess where they’ll be placed?

Wow, this short notice! If you head over to your local Hot Topic tomorrow evening at 7 and pick up a copy of the New Moon Soundtrack, you get a free gift! No word on what it is yet (I’m guessing a poster, but I could be wrong).

Since I don’t have my copy yet, I’m thinking I’m going to do this. That’s if I can convince Jeremy to go. He hates the mall, and Hot Topic even more, so we will see how it goes.

For all of those who can’t (or understandably don’t want to) go, I promise to bring my camera! Stay tuned…

If you have a twitter account, you probably already heard this (and I hope that you are following me on Twitter too! ), but Summit announced today that the New Moon Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released on October 16th! That is THIS Friday!

I haven’t listened since I want the music to be a surprise, but what do you think? Entertainment Weekly gave the soundtrack a grade of A!

I’m only posting one, since I don’t know if some of y’all are doing like me and trying to avoid spoilers now that the movie is a little over a month away. (One thing in particular I’m avoiding is the New Moon movie companion. I haven’t posted any of the scans from it because I haven’t looked at them. I bought my copy the day it was released, and it is safely hidden from me until the day after I see New Moon.)

MTV has finally premiered the video for the first single off the New Moon Soundtrack, “Meet Me On The Equinox” by Death Cab For Cutie.

All I can say is *tear*. And *sigh* Oh, Edward.

43 days, you guys. It’s getting closer!

There is no Rob Pattinson on this list. I’m sad about that.

But…excited because the full track list has been revealed on Stephenie Meyers’s website today. I have already decided not to listen to any of the songs until I watch the movie, since I want that to be the first time I hear them, but for those of you not waiting, you can preorder the CD here.

I admit, when I first read this, I exhaled in a sigh of relief. No Jonas Brothers, Madonna, Hilary Duff, or f-in’ Justin Guarini (who? Yeah, that’s what I thought) in sight. Thank you God.

It’s been pretty slow news lately (aside from the whole Victoria debacle), and I’ve been pretty bored, just hanging out on Twitter basically all day.

I finally decided to join this site called Blip.fm that I noticed a lot of people on Twitter using to tweet Rob songs and quotes. (Thanks to @I_luv_spunk for giving me the idea! You picked some really awesome Rob songs to “blip”!)

As I was setting up my profile and listening to Rob songs at the same time, I realized I had forgotten just how talented he is at singing and writing music. The truth is, I don’t really like to listen to his stuff on youtube because it makes me REALLY REALLY wish he would release a CD (nothing with a major label or anything, just something official) so I could take it with me anywhere.

Anyway, as I was listening to Rob sing his heart out, I started thinking about the New Moon soundtrack, and how I am really going to feel the lack of Rob’s contribution if they really don’t use any of his music. I’m not sure if this is because Rob doesn’t want his music on it (which I can understand), or if they are just holding out on us and there will be something of his on the soundtrack as a surprise. I’m hoping it’s the latter, but only if Rob wants to share with the rest of us.

Anyway, here is a refresher on what we are most likely missing out on for the New Moon soundtrack. (Keep in mind these are mostly recorded from open mic nights, so the sound is going to be a little wonky in places)

Just go ahead and tell me this song is perfect for New Moon because it so obviously is:

*Wipes back tears* Read those lyrics (on the videos youtube link in the “more info”). That would go along so well with Edward leaving Bella then coming back in New Moon.

This next one is another one of my favorites. I have this downloaded on my computer. A lot of people don’t realize this is actually a Van Morrison cover, one of Rob’s favorite artists.

I love that little laugh he does in the middle! He’s going to sing that song to me every night when we are married *sigh*

This next song makes me think of laying in bed on a lazy day, listening to the rain outside.

I’m just going to say I can’t pick a favorite of these. I love them all too much.

And of course, two of the best songs on the Twilight soundtrack:

Hearing that song takes me right back to the first time I heard it while watching Twilight for the first time. One of my most favorite songs of all time. My favorite line is, “She’s saying oh please, I’m in love. I’m in love.”

I love this one for my angsty moods. This is a good one to take a walk alone to.

Ugh. This is just making me even more bummed knowing he’s not going to be on the New Moon soundtrack. I’m definitely going to be mourning that loss.

I barely know what to say about this. This is Rob’s face after hearing the song Justin Guarini (who? Yeah, I know) wants added to the New Moon soundtrack.

I don’t even-I just-all I can say is, “No. No, dude with the funky fro from the FIRST fucking season of American Idol like a bizzilion years ago.” Honestly, way to try to latch on to the hot topic in the Hollywood right now to get your name back in the news.

Ok, I’m probably being a little harsh. It’s not that this is a BAD song, per say. It just doesn’t pass the bar set by the last soundtrack for the Twilight movie. I know I’m probably in the minority, but I found something to love about every single song on the Twilight soundtrack. I liked that the music they chose wasn’t by any bands or singers that are on the top 40 radio stations. When the music started playing in the movie scenes, it didn’t jolt you out of the movie by making you think, “Oh, that’s a Kelly Clarkson/Madonna/Jonas Brothers song.” You just thought, “Oh that’s an awesome/haunting/beautiful song.” and were able to stay in the story. The only time I recognized any of the music was during the baseball scene and I think you were meant to, since all fans of the series know that Muse was a major inspiration for Stephanie as she was writing.

So please, Summit. Do the right thing and tell this fool, “Thanks, but no thanks. Don’t call us, we’ll call you.” or however you want to put it to him. Ooh, I know! Just tell him that all the room on the soundtrack for ballads is already taken by Rob’s songs that he and all his talented friends wrote for the movie. That’s someone the fans DEFINITELY want to hear more from.
