Eclipse Movie: My First Thoughts (Kinda Spoilery)

I am back and have slept for a few hours on my first thoughts about Eclipse. I’m not going to write a full review post until I see it a second time (which unfortunately, will not be tonight, but tomorrow) so this is just a review of my overall thoughts.

First of all, you can totally tell that the director is Team Jacob. There were so many flattering moments to him throughout the film, way more than I really expected. I don’t necessarily think it was bad…and I suppose it makes sense to have Jacob look a tad bit like the better choice for Bella in this movie so you can get a sense of what she’s leaving behind in order to choose Edward. When I think about it like that, it makes sense.

One thing I absolutely hands down loved were the flashback scenes. I was very impressed that they flashed back during Billy’s story of the history of the tribe. Besides Jasper’s Civil War stuff, that had to be my favorite. I wish we could have gotten to see more of Rosalie’s, but the part we did see (especially of her in her wedding dress) was amazing.

The. Leg. Hitch. Scene. How awesome was that?  Totally how I pictured in the book, and the awkwardness of the conversation was pretty realistic. The feminist in me has many things to say about that scene (particularly Bella feeling guilty about wanting to have sex with Edward), but for now I will just say that it was pretty hot (WAY hotter than the second kiss with Jake! Take that!) and it was one of my favorites.

The tent scene also stood out for me. I loved the dialog between Edward and Jacob and I thought it was one of the best of the movie. I definitely can’t wait to rewatch that.

Now I’m going to end on something I didn’t like: All the extreme closeups on the actors faces. It happened in like, every scene. It was distracting to me because I would find myself wondering what kind of makeup they used to make KStew’s pores disappear instead of listening to what she was saying. I thought the closeups would have been better if used sparingly in some scenes with emotional impact.

So what did you think? What was your favorite part? Your least favorite part? Is this your favorite of the three so far? Let me know in the comments!

I have to say, that Eclipse is my fave of the three!
I also wish they would have shown more of Rosalie…like actually killing Royce…maybe a deleted scene?
The whole movie did seem very Team Jacob…I questioned my loyalty a few times…lol
Leg Hitch was awesome!!! There was so much more kissing…me likey! It was a little strange because some of the scenes I felt like I was watching Robsten make out and not Edward and Bella…idk…I’m weird…lol
Major Whitlock FTMFW!!! Aside from his crappy hair, everything else was awesome!
Hopefully I’m going tomorrow as well to see it again!

Oh yeah, very true about all the closeups! It was hard to concentrate sometimes!

Yeah there was way more kissing in the leg hitch scene than I thought there would be. We haven’t really seen any E/B action since Twilight, so that was awesome!

I loved the make-out scene! I loved all kissing in the movie Bella is very lucky :) But other than that I really liked the movie. I loved seeing Jasper as a general! I just wish they let him have better hair. I am a sucker for a guy in a uniform so I got over the bad hair….as long as he was wearing his uniform.

I also did not like the close ups. I found they were very distracting as well. In fact, I was constantly looking to see if I could see any glue on Kristen’s wig hair line or pondering why Summit did not pay enough to ensure proper matching of Kristen’s eyebrows? I was so engrossed on her eyebrows I was analyzing which area I would need to be pluck in order to fix the problem. I can’t believe Summit could gross $30 million at the midnight opening alone and still present their primary star with mismatched eyebrows close up? C’MON? On a good note, I LOVED that Edward did not wear any blazers. That was a total bummer for me in New Moon. Seventeen year olds do not wear blazers! Glad the t-shirts and button ups were back. Eclipse kicked New Moon’s ass. The tempo of the movie was a good pace when compared to slow dragging New Moon. In fact, I’m still wondering why everyone loved Chris Weitz so much? Also noticed the Team Jacob people I encountered at the theater had never read the books. Are there many Team Jacob people out there who read the books first? It was Summit who invented Team Edward/Team Jacob and not Stephanie correct? I just can’t imagine how anyone could be Team Jacob after falling in love with Edward in the books? Edward is described as imaginary perfection…… how can anything or anyone else even compare?

Loved the film as a whole. Some really amazing scenes. The ‘pack’s’ history, Rose’s was too brief. Jasper’s was awesome. Not likey the close ups – the make-up looked just like make-up, pity. Loved the attention to the different vamp eye colour changes when they were all angry!

Hated the two frontal close-ups of Emmett grasping for Victoria – they were laughable! There was a weird overhead camera shot of Bella getting into her truck – er, why? Also all of the Riley, Victoria, Edward, Seth and Bella snow scenes were so superimposed. Finally, why was Bella wearing a ridiculously thin coat up the mountains, yet when she was on the beach with Jacob in Twilight when it was only raining she tripled in size due to the size of her coat AND she had hat and gloves, it made the whole freezing to death imaginery wrong.

I still enjoyed the film even with Jasper’s accent changing from one scene to another. lol

Such a shame when the special effects were incredibly believable in other parts of the film.

@Nicky- Jasper’s accent changes drove Jeremy crazy! He hated it. For me, it only gets awkward when he starts talking about Alice. I mean…is he about to…cry? I feel uncomfortable at that part, and I want to laugh.
