Where Are The Deleted/Extended Scenes On My New Moon DVD From Walmart?

I am highly annoyed over here. This post got it’s title because it’s the exact thing I typed into google a few minutes ago.

Backstory: About a week ago, I read an article (sorry guys, do not have the link to it and I don’t remember where I saw it) where Chris Weitz was discussing with a reporter the New Moon DVD. He talked about the reasons Rob, Kristen and Taylor didn’t end up doing the commentary like he promised (which is shitty too. BUT, they were exhausted from the promotion tour, so I’m not too pissed about that any more) and how Summit is basically in control over the different retailer versions of the DVD and they control what special features go where. This is important because I remember the reporter told Mr. Weitz that he had been given a copy of the DVD by Summit and had searched the menus and never saw any deleted or extended scenes. They were both puzzled by this and then CW said again how Summit are the ones in control of all that.

Cut to today. I, like many of you, went to Wal Mart for my New Moon DVD needs. Jeremy and I wanted to beat the crowd, so we waited until about 12:45 and headed over. By that point, there was hardly anyone else there and we were able to just go straight back to electronics and pick up our copy of the blu ray.

Then I get home, tear it out of the plastic and have it in the player before I even set my purse down. Jeremy and I sat down and watched the Eclipse footage first (See the exclusive scene only on the Wal Mart DVD HERE). After I watched a few of the other special features, like Edward goes to Italy, Meet the Wolf Pack (see HERE, the rest will be put up shortly), I noticed there was no option for watching the extended or deleted scenes.

So, I turned to trusty google and found this article Chris Weitz Admits He Lied About Deleted Scenes On DVD.

Twi’hards are going to be out for Chris Weitz’s blood.

The director of “Twilight: New Moon” says the film’s DVD, to be released Saturday, will not include deleted scenes like he had promised.

“I’m basically a big, fat liar,” Weitz tells NBC’s PopcornBiz. “I put it out there that there are deleted scenes, but I just realized there aren’t. It was an honest mistake.”

The filmmaker only recently realized that “Twilight’s” production company, Summit, will be spreading the series extras across several DVD releases.

“I don’t want to get Twilight fans banging down my door demanding deleted scenes,” Weitz says, adding that the slow release was a marketing choice.

Weitz admitted that he believes Summit made the decision to profit more heavily from subsequent DVD releases.

So yeah. There are no deleted or extended scenes on your Wal Mart DVD because Summit wants you to buy the one at Wal Mart for the Eclipse footage, and then another one at Target (they have the deleted scenes plus a few other cool exclusive featurettes) and then another copy at Borders, since their DVD has the extended scenes only (EXTENDED scenes have already hit the net, watch them HERE.) Also to add to that, Summit most likely plans on re-releasing these cash cows again in a few years with extra stuff added to milk Twi fans even more.

Moral of the story: In the future, buy the rest of your Twilight Saga DVD’s at Target. They have some kind of sweet deal with Summit where they end up having the most extras out of everyone else (same case with the Twilight DVD, and I would bet money that the Eclipse DVD will be the same way). Also, do research before you buy (I was stupid and didn’t do this this time around, I just assumed everyone would have the deleted/extended scenes like the last time). Look around at all the prices and extras offered at retailers and online sites before you pre-order. Make sure you are getting what you want.

    I am sorta in the same boat as you… I knew I wanted the Walmart copy for the Eclipse footage, which were awesome, but I always get 2 copies of movies. I bought the Walmart one on DVD and I am going out tomorrow to get the Blu-ray copy at either Taarget or BestBuy. I am a little (totally down playing the little) irritated though…. I do agree Target always has the best special features and extras but this year no one has the digital copy!!! I don’t know about you but my iPod is practically another one of my body parts. (I was already watching new moon on my ipod at 915pm) It’s getting crazy that we have to spend $80 on 1 movie!! It is totally worth it and us Twi-Hards will spend the money but Summit is SERIOUSLY getting on my nerves!!!! I would never suggest a boycott because I’m not that crazy but something has to be done!! I don’t think that we need to buy 50 different copies of the movie to see all the cool things we as twilight fans want to see. While the Walmart copy has the cool Eclipse footage and best Buy has the cool Steel cover and phone skin, I think that the Target copy will be everyones best and safe bet (it even has a film cell)!!

    Yeah agreed! I had to buy two copies of Twilight for the same reasons, and I hadn’t even thought about the digital copy of the movie. I was definitely planning on putting it on my ipod, but that will have to wait, I guess. I don’t even know how much money just me alone have spent on New Moon. All the tickets for viewings in the theater, the soundtrack and the score, and NOW the DVD’s? I don’t even want to think about it!

    I’m from Canada and we don’t have Target here. I can’t buy the DVD with the deleted scenes. (I think it had deleted scenes) I was so excited and now I’m all sad :( I’m trying to figure out if Target does shipping to Canada but things aren’t looking so good. Twi-fans have already spent so much money on other New Moon stuff that it’s completely unreasonable for Summit to even do this. Now I have to somehow convince my parents to drive me down to the U.S. to get the DVD that I want!

    Do you have any info as to what versions are available in Canada? We dont have Target and I dont think they ship to Canada. I assume our Walmart version would be the same, but probably not in Quebec where the movie would have to have French.

    I ordered the Walmart Ultimate Fan Edition and the Target 3 Disc Deluxe Edition because I want to 3 disc to match my Twilight dvd and I wanted the Eclipse footage from the walmart dvd. I am wishing I had just bought the target one and watched the eclipse stuff on youtube. Oh well. Summit really knows how to screw us up the ass. just sayin.

    I think that’s pretty stupid they don’t offer the same special features everywhere. That really sucks that a lot of fans miss out. The only thing I can say is that as soon as they hit youtube, I will have them up here for everyone to see.

    i got mine from target i got the 3 disc version and it didnt have the extended scenes. so me and my sis went on line and watched them and i was ok but then i relised that their were two missing bella phoning jake and HOME AFTER ITALY the one i have been dieing to see. so if anyone knows where it is plz tell or my sis will go mad and i would not be able to stop looking till i see it.
