Fan Movement: Respect Your Fellow Twilighters On 11-20-09

I just got done reading a post by one of my favorite fellow bloggers, Cutie, from Super Secret Twilight Blog. (If you are not reading her blog yet, GO NOW and read! It’s ok, I’ll wait.) In her latest piece of brilliance, she wrote a hilarious post about how her midnight showing experience went last year, and as a result of what she went through, she’s started a movement that we can all take part in this year and make the movie going experience a little better for everyone.
I know I am OH-SO-LATE late to this, but I just now read about this on Twitarded, so bear with me here.
First, since we are sharing what the midnight show to Twilight was like, let me tell you how things went down in my neck of the woods.
As I’ve discussed before, I literally had just finished Twilight the book on the DAY of the midnight premiere of the movie. I had spent all day nearly peeing my pants in excitement for the midnight show, which my mom had already gotten tickets to months in advance.
I got to the movie theater about 6 o clock. Yes, 6 hours early. My mom was already there, I still have no idea what time she arrived to get in line. Even so, the line of people waiting to see it was already out the door and wrapped all the way around the building. This was one of those giant Cinemark theaters, so that’s A LOT of people. Our spot was still inside, but just barely. We were literally pressed against the door.
At about 10 o clock, we were all sitting around, talking with the people around us in line, reading (I had my nose buried in New Moon) when a mother and daughter came in the doors to pick up their tickets at the box office. The mom stayed standing right beside us while her daughter ran up to get them.
When her daughter was done, her mom literally looked outside at the longest line ever, then looked down at the tiny space of floor she was occupying, and then CUT IN LINE. She just smooshed herself in front of us, then pulled out a book and pretended like she hadn’t done anything wrong.
You guys, I thought my mom was going to do something that would cause us to make the paper. I could actually picture the headlines (“TWI-MOM THROWDOWN AT CINEMARK!”) while my mom stood there and gave this woman a glare that would melt a glacier.
Thankfully, I was able to keep WWIII from happening, and we made it inside safely. From there, I had a pretty good experience. Of course there were squees and cheers all throughout the movie, and I may in the minority on this, but I LOVED it! I loved when everyone would laugh at the inside jokes at Jasper’s expense, and the giggle and gasp that went through the crowd at the first mention of Jacob Black, and of course none of that compared to the cafeteria scene when Edward walked in! The excitement was palpable, and that was the first time I really felt like a part of a community when I watched the movie with fellow fans, and that feeling is the main reason I’m looking forward to the midnight show of New Moon in just a few days.
But, with that said, we all know how to show excitement politely, and how not to do it. Cutie has made up a list of rules we all can follow if we are unsure if a behavior is appropriate or not. My favorite rule is number one:
1. Duct taping your mouth shut if you have to, but keep the chatting down to a minimum. I think my sad tale is enough of an explanation, but I will repeat this: DO NOT SING ALONG WITH THE SONGS! There is no bouncing ball; this is not Mickey’s Sing A Long Songs.
Please check out the rest of her hilarious post here, so you can read the rest of the rules. Know them, live them, breathe them. Also please read the banners made up for this movement, and feel free to submit your own rules and comments for her buttons here or there!
My favorite prospective button?
